Why procedural generating is used so much in gaming?

Everyone, that plays a lot of video games or is interested in programming knows about procedural generating. Generally, procedural generating is creation content, such as landscapes, enemies or textures, based on parameters of an algorithm. One of the main benefit of using procedural generating is that player will never be placed in the same world as in previous gameplay. For example, in No Man's Sky even if player will start new game every second of his life, he will never spawn in the same planet, because the universe created by an algorithm is too big. Another big advantage is that creating an algorithm takes less time and money than creating world manually. But there are also disadvantages of procedural generating. For example even world created by the best algorithm will never be as complex as world created by hand. This is why in most high budget games world and enemies are created by hand, and procedural generating is used in small area, for example in number of enemies spa...

Games using procedural generating #3

My third post is about another, well known game, Terraria. This game is called "2D Minecraft". There are many reasons to think that. Terraria has similar "cubic" graphic, is also based on on procedural generated world and monsters. This game was created by small, independent american studio, "Re-Logic" and published by "505 Games" on 16 May 2011. The game received very positive reviews, and it has sold in over 35 milion copies, which is one of the biggest success in video game history. Terraria world is entirely built with small squares of different materials, such as stone, dirt, wood, etc. This game was entirely written in C# programming language. Terraria is also known for being one of the most positive reviewed games on Metacritic.  Sources https://terraria.fandom.com/wiki/Terraria_Wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terraria https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/terraria

Games using procedural generating #2

My second post is about game everybody knows, Minecraft. This simple game was created by Swedish game developer, Markus Persson, in May, 2009. Markus Persson created it by "playing with code". He didn't expected huge success of his game. Minecraft isn't using an official game engine. It's created from A to Z in java programming language. From 2009 the popularity of Minecraft expanded to nearly 238 million sold copies, that makes it the most popular game in history. Minecraft world is created by algorithm, which creates world bigger than Earth, build with cube blocks like dirt blocks, stone blocks etc. Minecraft don't have main goal, the player is given free will by devs. Player can build anything that he want, do anything he want. Minecraft was groundbreaking in history of video gaming. Minecraft's revolutionary solutions changed creation of every survival and sandbox game after it.
